What do family holiday or vacation traditions, the departments in your favorite magazine, and the primetime TV schedule all have in common?

They give us something to look forward to! (At my house, Monday nights are all about The Voice and Smash.)

In all of the information chaos around us, it’s important that we give people some predictability, some soft places to land, a friendly face to recognize in the crowd. One way to do that is to build some traditions in your communications schedule. In newspaper-speak, we call those sections that appear regularly and in the same place “standing heads.” But the same idea can apply to your blog or newsletter, and Facebook and Twitter too.
