As the people at #GivingTuesday say, “We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals….Wouldn’t it be great to have a day for giving back?”
And that’s what #GivingTuesday is all about – changing the typical consumer mentality that occurs between Thanksgiving and Christmas and turning our attention toward helping others.
This year #GivingTuesday is on Tuesday, November 27th and nonprofits, businesses and supporters from all over the world will take part. It’s not about one charity or cause taking center stage – it’s about all of us who try to help the world become a better place. That means nonprofits from big to small can take part. And it’s not too late!
What can nonprofits do?
First off, you should become an official #GivingTuesday partner. Create your own Partner Page and be featured on the #GivingTuesday website. It doesn’t take very long at all.
Here are a few other things you should be able to pull off in the next week through your regular communications:
- Encourage people to volunteer.
- Tweet with the hashtag #GivingTuesday asking for small dollar donations.
- Host a Q&A on Facebook.
- Have a supply drive.
- Encourage your supporters to join Community.givingtuesday.org.
- Send an email to supporters with prewritten tweets they can send to spread the word about your cause. (Include the hashtag #GivingTuesday and make sure it’s short enough to retweet without truncating.)
It’s entirely up to you! For more ideas, you can look through the other #GivingTuesday Partner’s pages to see what they have planned.
We would love to hear if your organization is planning anything special for #GivingTuesday.
